Gypsy Moths Movie Set Pics April 1968

Here are photos, from my collection, that Francis Frazier (daughter of Seth) took during the filming of The Gypsy Moths in 1968.  Her house was selected after looking at several houses throughout the mid west.  I will post more related to the movie later.

My son, Zane and, St. Bernard Layla helping dad pressure wash the front porch and new walkway.
That walkway was more work then I ever want to remember!

2011 Historic House Tour

It's taking me longer to get pics together from my current projects so I thought I would post some pics from past events and some of the history associated with this magnificent house.

The house tour was, by all measures, a wonderful success.  We raised over $3000 for charity and showed the house to about 400 people in a little over 4 hours.   It was an insane amount of work but if asked would do it again.

Replacing Rotted Trim

I had to remove some seriously rotted trim above the north porch.

I went to the local home center to look for some 1 1/8 x 5 PVC moulding but no luck.  Then I remembered I had a bunch of virgin growth pine from my garage gut job.  Old growth pine is extremely dense, compared to modern pine, and will last forever if it's protected and maintained correctly.
After driving new nails I applied calk over the nails, seams and any other holes.

I cut a 45 degree angle on the end of the new piece to mate to the existing trim piece.  You can see the existing piece is starting to show some signs of rot and will most likely need to be replaced as well...but not today.

I painted the new prime with two coats of Bear exterior latex with primer.  I also noticed that whoever painted the house didn't do the detail work, so I went ahead and took care of it.

Looks like I'll be touching up the clap boards with some paint tomorrow.

Dinning Room

One of the very first things we did, when we moved in, was to remove the delaminating wall paper and paint the dinning room a vivid red!   Can't remember the color name off the top of my head (I'll post it later) but its a Sherwin-Williams paint-$60 per gallon!  Yikes.
